Litigation & Dispute Resolution
Civil litigation generally is the commencement of a suit in the Singapore Court system or in other dispute resolution systems in place in Singapore. Parties may sue because of a breach of contract, negligence or some other breach of duty as recognised by law. The remedies that may be ordered would usually be compensation in money, or some other order which the Court may decide at the end of the dispute.
Parties may also appeal decisions made, to a higher Court, though there are strict rules to limit the appeal avenues available to parties.
The length of time from the start to the end of a suit can range from 9 months to 2 years depending on the complexity of the matter. An appeal, whether at the end of the suit, or even during the suit could lengthen the process.
